It’s full steam ahead for ProSilva Ireland in 2017. We have an action packed schedule of events promoting and sharing experiences on Continuous Cover Forestry as well as the launch of a new Practical Manual on CCF Management and a presence at the Irish Forestry Woodland and Bio Energy Show.
Spring Field Day – April 22nd:
The first of our regular field days will be on a small farm forest near Borris, Co. Carlow and is scheduled for Saturday April 22nd. The field day will include discussions on a number of different forest types and practical exercises in marking thinnings. Details will be published nearer to the event.
This event will also see the launch of ProSilva Ireland’s translation of a handbook on practical Continuous Cover Forestry management, originally published by ProSilva Wallonia in Belgium.
Forestry Woodland and Bio Energy Show – Stradbally, Co. Laois – May 5th & 6th:
This year will also see ProSilva Ireland at the Irish Forestry Woodland and Bio Energy Show at Stradbally on May 5th and 6th. The event has become a fixture on the calendar for foresters, contractors, woodland owners and other stakeholders over the last few years. ProSilva will use the 2017 occasion to mark the official launch of the Wallonia CCF Handbook.
It will also be an opportunity to further promote CCF in Ireland and to engage with foresters and forest owners and to discuss how CCF management can be applicable in different circumstances throughout Ireland.
Annual Study Tour – Wales – September 15th to 17th:
In September it’s off to Wales for the annual ProSilva Ireland Foreign Study Tour where we will be hosted by Huw Denman and Phil Morgan. The dates are September 15th, via ferry from Rosslare, returning Sunday 17th from Fishguard back to Rosslare.
Further details will be provided at a later date. However, participants will visit forests at Coed Preseli (In the Preseli hills beside Fishguard, Pembrokeshire) and Bryn Arau Duon, an upland woodland in central Wales. Both these woods have similar conditions and species to our forests in Ireland and have been in CCF management for over a decade and there is a lot to learn from them.
Autumn Field Day – North East – October 7th:
The regular ProSilva autumn field day and AGM will take place in the north-east of the country on October 7th, details to be confirmed.
